Church Family

-   A diverse group in every way

We are people of all ages, with different interests united by a common bond in the Christian Faith. Some are seeking, some have been Christians for many years. We have an incredible range of talents from Preaching to hospitality to music making. Who ever you are you will always find a welcome here. We may get things wrong sometimes, but we try to show God’s love to all who walk through our doors.

THINK POSSIBLE!

The Parish Home Morning on 19th March explored the new Parish strategy and as you can see we've used the principle of a flight of geese to illustrate that if EVERYONE plays a part in the life of our church, then not only are the tasks of the few lightened but we grow both as fellowship and numbers. After you've browsed the Parish Leadership Team link above, you may wish to sign up on one or more of the boards which will be displayed in church after each of the services during Lent.

The Diocese encourages us to ‘Release the Energy!’ We are thinking about releasing the Vicar! It’s been common knowledge for about a year that I am planning to retire in 2012. This parish is part of the Diocese of Bristol and we work in partnership. It is the expectation of the Diocese that all parishes can thrive, even during vacancies. We are far more likely to be offered a new Priest-in-charge if our parish is proven to be a going concern rather than one that is struggling to keep our heads above water. After discussion with the PCC over this last year we have come up with a plan that will help us to fulfil the Diocesan expectation and our own continuation as a Christian community. The idea is not to overload one or two individuals, but to spread the load by working in teams, covering every aspect of church life. On Saturday 19th March we are asking all who are interested in helping out to join us, so that we can explain the details of our plan. Maybe you could offer your time to help us out, so that our two beautiful churches continue to be available to all who need them.

A PRAYER FOR ASCENSION DAY - THURSDAY 2ND JUNE

O Almighty God,
whose blessed Son our Savior Jesus Christ
ascended far above all heavens that he might fill all things:
Mercifully give us faith to perceive that,
according to his promise,
he abides with his Church on earth,
even to the end of the ages;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.

NEWS

In the coming months there will be chat, notices and generally more information circulating around the parish about "Growing Leaders". The Church of England is on the move and, as part of our Diocesan "Realeasing the Energy" strategy, lots of both informal and formal (formal=leading to licensed ministry) training is being made available.
All church members are encouraged to explore new ways of enabling their gifts and talents to bring a blessing both to the church and to the wider community.
You might like to take a preview at some of the resources available on the Growing Leaders website.

Prayer for Japan

O God of comfort,
bring healing and hope to those who, at this time, grieve, suffer pain, or who have been affected by the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. We remember those who have died and we pray for those who mourn for them. May we all be aware of Your compassion, O God, which calms our troubled hearts and shelters our anxious souls. May we pray with humility with our troubled and struggling brothers and sisters on earth. May we dare to hope that through the generosity of the privileged, the destitute might glimpse hope, warmth and life again. Through our Saviour Christ who lives with us, comforts us and soothes us. Amen..

Puppets, Joe and Katie appeared together for the first time on Mothering Sunday at St Mary’s to speak to the congregation on the importance of being kind and loving to one another. The script was written especially for the occasion by Decia who is in the process of producing more scripts during her Sabbatical. Frances Houghton was visiting from Holy Trinity Hotwells with Katie and said that they had really enjoyed taking part in the sketch. Andrew was pleased that Joe had behaved himself, although he was a bit cheeky, but no one seemed to mind and he’d got on so well with Katie that the foursome are keen to put on some more future productions. Simon and Sylvia, married in the parish earlier this year, contributed this splendid photograph of St Mary's taken from the balloon Simon was flying.
